Grades 3 – 5
The curriculum of the Intermediate Grades (3-5) meets the Archdiocesan and state curriculum standards in the subjects of English, reading, spelling, mathematics, social studies, science and religion. Specialists teach art, physical education, music, library/media and computers.
Fountas and Pinnell Assessment Systems and Accelerated Reader are used to determine each student’s instructional reading level and guide independent reading.
Students use IXL, an online math practice site, in school and at home, to reinforce and enhance math skills.
Technology is effectively integrated into the classroom with the use of a variety of devices. Students are exposed to laptops, IPads, individual responders, and active boards. Students are taught keyboarding in 4th and 5th grade.
Students participate in Service Learning Projects at each level.
Students are all involved with the annual Operetta and perform songs and dance in the spring Songfest. 4th graders all learn to play the recorder and an optional band program is available for 5th graders.
Students compete in local art, math, and writing contests. They also participate in the school Spelling Bee and Geography Bee.
Opportunities for field trips and guest speakers increase in the intermediate grades, enhancing student learning.
